Proof that even independent artists can be proud of their own hard work and self made publicity, the Panamanian duo Los Rakas drop their PUMA collaboration.

Made available in early 2013 at select retail outlets (such as Milpitas Mall, Eastridge and Oak Ridge Malls in San Jose, San Bruno Mall, and the Serramonte Center) the Los Rakas x PUMA Modelo is a shoe of inspiration. Started by a collaborative effort between PUMA, Modelo Especial, and Complex Magazine, a fan-judged contest entitled the “Blank Canvas” project was brought to life in 2012.

Through hard work, lots of self-promotion, and a wealth of supportive fans, the Los Rakas brothers busted through to win the contest and have their own specially designed shoe hit the market. Just before the contest ended in their favor on September 13th we spoke with the boys briefly to understand what guided their music and lifestyle (and of course, to wish them good luck in the run). It turns out that the shoe was a perfect place for them to apply their style and get their name out to an even bigger audience than before.

Whether you dig the Raka movement or you just want an exclusive and unique PUMA pair to rock, get your ghost over to California and snag a pair before they’re history, Raka-style.

Contribute hype to eatmoreshoes

Here at eatmoreshoes we love our kicks, but we also open our minds to the greater cultural world that surrounds and engulfs the sneaker scenes around the world. Music, arts, events, films, performance, fashion, food, and people are at the heart of what is so good about lush leather and sweet suede strapped to your ankles with soft vintage laces, fats or thins, colored or bleached. We truly believe it’s the diversity of the scenes that make things stay exciting and keep up momentum year after year.

For this reason we see ‘hype’ as something that should cover more than just the most recent shoe releases or the most awaited collaborations between boutiques and brands. We think an album debut party or an avantgarde street performance could be ‘hype’. We think independent zine issues and self-built, DIY, underground gallery spaces are worthy of the title ‘hype’.

Welcome to eatmoreshoes, an online magazine specifically geared towards the adidas and PUMA brands.

The idea behind our magazine is relatively simple: we’re creating a site that showcases both the ‘history’ and the ‘hype’ of the worldwide sneaker culture without being elitist or trying to dictate to our readers. We cover various aspects of this culture by providing archives of adidas and PUMA shoes and clothing, hunting down and interviewing collectors, searching out the best stores we can find, and reporting on the hype.
