adidas Collector’s Project

We’ve seen a recent trend in adidas Originals’ reach for inspiration, allowing not only designers but now also collectors into the folds of the collaborative projects and Consortium packs to show what they know and how they feel about the brand.

And while the Your Story pack put it close (with Quote’s ZX 500), and the Spezial Exhibition quite significantly closer (showing off the dusty, delightful articles stored for years by Gary Aspden and friends), there has never actually been a release series dedicated one hundred percent to the collector in all of us.

Until now.

Assembling five of the most heavy hitting and full hearted adidas enthusiasts on the planet, Originals has opened up the shop to the ideas and the passions of those who followed the Trefoil from the outside (so to speak) for so long.

Germany’s prized lady in rare leathers and vintage suede, professional photographer Julia Schoierer (aka Sneakerqueen) revives the Rivalry Hi while a pair of Pro Model 80s is put on display by DJ Operator Emz (real life name Michael Greene), the master of the weekly 45″ jam from Harlem. Then there’s Robert Brooks (aka Brooksy Brooks), who recently showed his vintage treasures at the Spezial Exhibition, a designer with no limitations from the UK who is as ecstatic about collecting deadstock relics as he probably is about designing his very own ZX 550. Mr. Magara, a collector hailing all the way from Tokyo, shows his love of the Country silhouette, and lastly Ralf Tiittanen displays an obvious love of terrace classics by bringing back the Bahamas.

We can’t say we’re anything but excited to see the results of such a massively exciting and ultimately intimate collaboration, one which will mean a lot, not only to the collectors involved, but as well to those of us who are represented symbolically in the work of our fellow adidas addicts.
