Ask any trefoil fanatic about the most iconic and memorable series that adidas has dropped and it’s a sure bet that they will mention the 35th Anniversary collection. Thirty five editions of the Superstar were released in early 2005, organized in five different series. One of these was the ‘Music Series’ (made available to the public in March) showcasing various artists and record labels. Roc-A-Fella records – founded by Jay-Z, Damon “Dame” Dash, and Kareem “Biggs” Burke, and responsible for big name acts such as Kanye West, Jadakiss, and Curren$y – collaborated with adidas Originals to put out a clean colorway on this classic silhouette.
The heel patch, heel strip, and the front near the forefoot are done in a smooth white leather while the quarter and side stripes are done in a black of the same material. On the heel patch where a black trefoil and the latter are normally showcased is a white Roc-A-Fella records logo. The rubber midsole is mostly white with an outsole that is black with yellow lining. The words ‘Roc-A-Fella Records’ are printed into the tread on the bottom of the shoe. They come with two pairs of laces, one black and one white, as well as a black, plastic lace jewel with a miniature, white Roc-A-Fella records logo etched and printed into it.
Like all seven Superstar 1′s from the 35th Anniversary Music Series, they were not only released in the limited number of 5000 pairs worldwide, but are considered to be relatively rare and certainly an attractive addition to any trainer collection.
