The beginning of tennis’ Open Era in the 1960′s inspired the adidas Tennis Vintage, a set of professional tennis trainers that have now become a collector’s piece.

This shoe is characterized by the simplistic design of a low suede upper, smooth rubber toe, and sturdy outer sole. The combination of deep green and cream is a prototype of the two-tone colorway adidas is known for today, and the three-hole feature in three rows on the side is now recognizable as adidas’ three-stripe trademark. Near the heel, a vintage adidas and “TENNIS” logo printed in gold provide a further retro essence of the time.

The padded collar and cushioned footbed of the Tennis Vintage allow for extra comfort and durability, and the zigzag pattern on the bottom sole delivers high-traction and maneuverability for tennis play. The clean look and high-performance of the shoe was adapted in the 1970′s into the Superstar basketball shoe, which features a similar shoe design other than an updated shell toe and the three-stripes on the side.

This original Tennis Vintage shoe is a rare find, but its reissue in solid white and in red and white as part of the 60′s Era pack for adidas’ 60th anniversary is much easier to track down.
