In a world where things are increasingly mass-produced, many of us are clamoring for something with a little more substance. Adidas’ Materials Of The World line offered consumers hand-woven, hand-dyed or hand-stitched fabrics, to herald a return to more traditional values, including the various cultures from each country.

As with much of the Middle East, Turks have often made livings from the art of weaving and textiles. Weavers have been trading on the great bazaar in Istanbul, for centuries. Techniques are handed down through generations, leaving age-old techniques virtually unaltered and still full of their original cultural charm and importance.

With the adidas Materials of the World campaign the ZX 500 features dark brown laser-designed smooth leather, set against roughly sewn clothes from some of Turkey’s many bazaars, worked with colorful patterns. This shoe is truly individual, giving a taste of Turkish culture, what’s more, only 500 were ever produced worldwide, linking the importance of culture in an increasingly manufactured world.
