The adidas Berlin was one of the first models to be released in the European City series and has been fiended over by many consumers ever since its original release in the late 70′s. The original Berlin release features a navy suede upper with light blue leather stripes, a brown outsole and the model name (Berlin) painted vertically down the side in gold foil paint. The first release of the Berlin’s are believed to have been made in west Germany or Yugoslavia however there are rumours that the Romanian versions were produced first.
Just like a few of the other City series models, the Berlin hasn’t seen many re-issues and has become a very hard model to source. However in late 2009 an independent sneaker and lifestyle boutique called Solebox collaborated with adidas as a part of the Consortium City series project and introduced a remake of the adidas Berlin to the market. The Solebox Berlin has a black mesh upper with faux suede details on the lacestays, stripes and toe. Other features include gold Berlin lettering on the side, gold lace tips and a gum outsole.
Solebox preserved the essence of the original colorway by including a light blue tongue and heeltab whilst cleverly decorating the interior of the shoe in navy with the original light blue stripes and gold Berlin lettering. This was a seriously well made re-issue and is seen by many as the best release from the series just like the original.

Contribute hype to eatmoreshoes
Here at eatmoreshoes we love our kicks, but we also open our minds to the greater cultural world that surrounds and engulfs the sneaker scenes around the world. Music, arts, events, films, performance, fashion, food, and people are at the heart of what is so good about lush leather and sweet suede strapped to your ankles with soft vintage laces, fats or thins, colored or bleached. We truly believe it’s the diversity of the scenes that make things stay exciting and keep up momentum year after year.
For this reason we see ‘hype’ as something that should cover more than just the most recent shoe releases or the most awaited collaborations between boutiques and brands. We think an album debut party or an avantgarde street performance could be ‘hype’. We think independent zine issues and self-built, DIY, underground gallery spaces are worthy of the title ‘hype’.

The idea behind our magazine is relatively simple: we’re creating a site that showcases both the ‘history’ and the ‘hype’ of the worldwide sneaker culture without being elitist or trying to dictate to our readers.
