Al-Naafiysh (The Soul) by Hashim (Street Sounds) x London’s Underground

Jerry Calliste Jr., American musician, producer, and businessman, is most well-known for the track Al-Naafiysh (The Soul) which he created under the pseudo-name Hashim. The track was put to an incredibly unique and original series of film shots depicting freestyle street dancers busting out their moves in London’s underground train system. Both on and off trains, youths can be seen popping and locking, waving, breaking, and performing various other dance styles related to the hip hop world.

In 2011 the video was remade by YAKfilms in collaboration with Neverstop and various Bay Area dancers. Even adidas Originals jumped in on the project to supply everyone with shoes and apparel. The final result was entitled Bay Area All Stars and it was released on YAKfilms’ YouTube channel. A ‘Making Of’ video was also released to give some insight into where the idea came from. Big congratulations to both YAKfilms and Neverstop for this creative and heartwarming collaboration. Huge kudos to the dancers, both from the original video and the contemporary one, and of course a large thank you goes out to adidas Originals for continuing to support the underground and street dance and music movements!
