In 2008 adidas Originals put out a series known as Sounds of the City (SOTC). The main idea behind the SOTC collection was to produce sneakers and matching apparel inspired by various musical legends who have influenced metropolitan areas around the world. The first to be released was the Motown Records pack, followed shortly by the Alligator Records pack. Founded in 1971 by Bruce Iglauer, the record company was named after his habit of clicking his teeth during jam sessions. The pack included this track jacket, a bowling shirt, a t-shirt, and a Superstar 1, all of which were designed to match the record label’s logo and branding.
The Alligator Records track top is made of a shiny cream colored polyester with caramel brown (Alligator Record’s official company color) sleeves and underarm patches. The stripes and zippers are also cream, and the trefoil and Alligator Records logos on each breast are embroidered in light and dark caramel brown respectively. The main feature of the jacket is the large cream on cream embroidery on the back, showing off the grinning Alligator Records full blown logo and company font. The jacket has a thin, loose fit and is equipped with two, open front pockets, both tapered with cream triangles on either end, as well as a zippered stash pouch on the left bicep.
