Known for his elaborate, yet subtle detailing and unique fashion sensibility, Kazuki Kuraishi (KzK) tends to be a name that always spells success and innovation. Working closely with adidas Originals he has produced a myriad of silhouettes and apparel, never ceasing to amaze with his attention to detail and the completeness of his designs. The “Mintos” Campus 80s he put out for adidas’ Originals by Originals (ObyO) Spring and Summer 2010 collection is just further proof of his unstoppable talent.
Covered in a soft, light gray, pigskin suede and stitched to the infamous off-white, rubber, 80s outsole, these kicks scream comfort from toe box to heel tab. Black leather side stripes and heel patch break the design, giving way to the gold detailing found on the side of the shoe, reading the nickname “Mintos”, and in the tongue, depicting a combined adidas ObyO and KzK logo. The gold print also illustrates the face of a lion wearing headphones, under which is written “Mintos at the controls”, referencing a Japanese DJ group that worked with adidas during the same release season.
Kazuki carves his final, hidden detailing into the black, synthetic heel tab, giving it a white center stripe and tiny writing bearing his signature, as well as a soft white name tag stitched to the insole. These KzK x Mintos Campus 80s come packaged in a white ObyO box and provide the wearer with a choice between light gray or black laces.
