New York City born Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was the NBA’s all-time top scorer. He played for both the Milaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers, but it was during his LA days that he crossed paths with the infamous three stripes. In 1978 adidas Origianls put out the first official Jabbar shoe, thereby starting the signature sneaker trend that would take over the sport and street fashion scenes for years and years to come.

Pictured here is a 2005 remake of the adidas Jabbar Hi, a tight-fitting, no frills, high cut, basketball silhouette. Made of a textured, black leather upper, the design is a done in a classic adidas colorway of simple white side stripes and heel patch on all black. The shoes are solidly stitched to a white, rubber sole sporting the well-known herringbone cup pattern on the bottom.

Finer details include the row of ten eyelets running straight up to the ankle collar and the thin comfortable tongue providing the wearer with the ability to lace the shoes up nice and tight for quick and sure movements on the court. Kareem’s face can be seen, illustrated in gold on a white rectangle against the black tongue, his name and signature next to the adidas branding proudly endorsing the quality and design of the shoe. The final touch is a gold trefoil and adidas text on the white leather heel patch.
