In 2009 PUMA released a limited edition pack of their R698 running shoe in a mesh makeup, perfect for the Summertime. Three different colorways were actually released, but as with many new releases, it’s a sure bet that some colorways were designed and never saw the light of day because they didn’t quite make the cut.

Presented here is one of those very such colorways. A PUMA R698 Salesman Sample in light sea blue, dull pastel purple, full-on white, and soft grey. This colorway is actually quite similar to the Solebox x PUMA R698′s that dropped in April of 2009, and this could explain why the big cat company decided to hold it back from shelves. Like many versions of the R698, its upper is built from a mixture of mesh, suede, and leather, each featuring its own unique texture.

Even a splash of yellow leaps across the sole of the shoe in the shape of a translucent lightning bolt, acting as a window to vaguely display a cross section view of the footwear’s Trinomic technology. This advancement in running sneakers was developed by PUMA in the late 1980′s to improve performance and speed. Characteristics of the Trinomic build include a hexagon shaped system in the sole that gives double the cushioning, durability, and stability than the typical foam sole found on many other running shoes.
