adidas Forum Mid “Kawaii”

The adidas Forum Mid “Kawaii”, a colorful pair of kicks from the 2011 Spring and Summer Collection, is unofficially and quite affectionately nicknamed the “cherry ice cream” Forum. The idea of ‘kawaii’ hails from Japan, meaning cute, lovable, and adorable. A great example of the kawaii attitude would be the ultra famous Hello Kitty character.
Obviously the cherries are the most important detail on this pair of Forum’s and this design feature is shared by other shoes and apparel from the adidas Originals Girls Festival Pack, also from 2011. The shoe is mostly made of very smooth, beige, tanned suede.
One of the shoe’s main features is the ankle collar and strap, both used to highlight the cherry detailing. Everybody knows this representive part of the Forum Mid (and Hi) silhouette; the leather cross that leads into the strap. On these the cross is made of cherry patterned, pink patent leather. To complete its lady-likeness the typically velcro strap has been replaced with a buckle.
The side stripes on the Forum Mid “Kawaii” are also unique, in that they aren’t separate strips of leather laid on top of the upper, but instead fitting inline with the material. Design features continue into the sockliner, detailed with a pink and white plaid patterning.
Finally, as with many Forum’s the mid and outsoles are true white. Overall, the adidas Forum Mid “Kawaii” is striking yet simple, a sneaker that makes (not just) girl’s hearts beat faster.
