On a cold January morning in 2005 adidas released the first part of the 35th Anniversary Superstar collection to massive sneakerhead acclaim. The top tier of this collection and arguably the most sought after were the Consortium releases. Available in strictly limited numbers and released in only a handful of carefully selected stores worldwide they caused mass hysteria with many people braving the harsh seasonal weather and camping out for these ultra limited sneakers.

Part of this 35th Anniversary Consortium Series was the the D-Mop Superstar, limited to 300 pairs worldwide. D-MOP believes that fashion isn’t simply about buying clothes and wearing clothes. It’s an extension of art, music and design. It’s a way to live and most importantly an amplification of one’s own inner being.

D-Mop has established itself as a purveyor offering all things fresh, experimental and pure in an often one-dimensional fashion landscape. D-Mop wanted a colorway which would invoke their unique spirit and style. Having experimented with numerous color and material combinations they opted for grey as their primary color on the upper and use different material combinations to represent their wacky, out of the ordinary style. The shoe is accented with D-Mop’s signature purple around the inside of the collar, partially hidden when worn, and revealed once removed to further reiterate their design rationale.

Unlike the rest of the 35th Anniversary Collection the Consortium Series used the adidas Superstar Vintage silhouette, characterized by a few changes to the well-known Superstar. The familiar adidas herringbone outsole in addition to it’s cream color is much slimmer than on other previously released Superstar models, giving the shoe an altogether closer fit around the foot arch. The heel tab and ankle collar are not as high as on modern Superstars, and the tongue is both skinnier and shorter, a shape that has proved popular amongst collectors.

Its grey upper is a soft, luxurious calf leather with suede side stripes, heel tab, and nubuck tongue. A restrained use of their vibrant signature purple is used on the sockliner and heel strip. The upper is completed with subtle the ‘D-Mop’ branding debossed in the heel counter of both shoes. The shoe’s final accents are the gold model name lettering adjacent to the side stripes and a lace jewel bearing the Consortium logo.

The adidas Superstar Vintage D-MOP’s come packaged in a specifically designed white and black 35th Anniversary Collection box with matching tissue paper. The bottom of the box depicts the thirty five models within the whole collection, each detailed with their release dates and worldwide quantities. As well as the accompanying grey vintage laces, two extra pairs of fat laces are included; one pair in a matching shade of grey with the anniversary theme and the other in the signature D-Mop purple with their branding.
