adidas Greenstar

  • MODEL: ADIDAS GREENSTAR
  • MADE IN: CHINA
  • MADE ON: --/11
  • ART.NO: G62945

What a simple, clean, and yet somehow complex silhouette from adidas Originals. First released in the early 70s the Greenstar wasn’t alone with other similarly named models also produced such as the Blackstar, Redstar, and Yellowstar.

On first glance it may appear as a variation of the Campus silhouette (or vice versa). But actually the Greenstar is an adidas Tournament. The models are the same, the only difference being that the Tournament was released in a variety of colorways back in the day. And thus is the confusing part of the shoe’s history.

Re-released now for the Fall 2012 Originals line, the super soft nubuck suede upper has been produced in two colors (the light, sky blue pictured here and a darker, forest green as well) both of which are laid over with white side stripes, heel patch, rivet eyelets, and matching laces. All this loveliness is stacked on top of a factory-yellowed midsole to mimic the vintage look of ancient OG trainers.

Lastly, it might not be so noticeable, but the black outsole is laced with a dusting of white, chalky coloring, giving the shoe an aged, almost used look. As always adidas’ attention to detail is superb – for example we’re lovin’ the lack of branding in their recent releases, these being no exception, with the only text on the shoe appearing low on the back of the mid sole, printed on the insole, and beneath the outsole itself – and we can see these going like hot cakes during their July release, especially with the forest green looking so comfortably lush as the leaves begin to fall (though this sky blue colorway may have been better suited as an early Spring or Summer shoe to be honest).
