With the Snooperstar, Tabula Rasa, and Your Story packs, 2012 has turned into a year full of the Pro Shell silhouette. This pair continues the trend with a kick of “university” red.

The Pro Shell came into play in 1984 and was initially an upgrade on the eminent Superstars, although the Pro Shells never surpassed their supposed predecessor. They fell in the shadows as the Supes made it big time with guys like RUN DMC sporting them.

Like the Superstar, it features the iconic shell toe. The idea behind the rubber shell toe was to protect the toes when playing ball and it became a big success. What the Pro Shell has, that the Superstar lacks, is a three-quarter cut along with a hook-and-loop Velcro strap.

The thing that makes this release stand out from the crowd is its unique stripes. The outer side stripes are made of black leather while the medial side has snakeskin stripes slithering over it. The rest of the upper is a red soft suede with notable red stitching throughout the shoe and on top of the strip that separates the heel tab from counter. Contrasting to the rest of the shoe, the shell toe, outsole, and sock-liner are dipped in an off-white.

Aptly named the ‘snakeskin’ pack, these red kicks came out alongside a dark green pair as well, packaged with an alternate pair of black laces, for those of you who need a bit more contrast in the colorway.
