Developed in the early 90′s, the Trinomic technology is a hexagonal cushioning system created for long distance runners. As to how they came up with the prefix “tri” for a hexagon-based development, we can’t say. Although it does sound better than “Hexanomic”.
When the PUMA Trinomic XT1 was first released, it featured a greyscale base layer with a variety of vibrant colors atop. For the 2013 recreation of the honeycombed trainer, PUMA decided to go 99.9% original in terms of colorway, materials, shape, even down to the OG box. The only minor change is an undetectable fix in stability created by the use of TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane). But I don’t think any hardcore sneakerheads will be complaining about that.
Although it seems to be widely overlooked, both Japanese-based Mita Sneakers and Beauty & Youth did a splendid job of helping reproduce these nostalgic, long-awaited trainers. This specific choice in colorway is a favorite of mine. It balances the white and grey with an electrifying teal and pink. It also balances the patterned mesh with the fine, smooth suede. And intertwined in the laces is a yellow lacelock following the Trinomic motif by placing the hexagonal pattern within a larger triangle.
I would have to place this retro in first place for PUMA’s releases this year. It is both a casual and an outspoken sneaker, and on top of that, it’s truly designed for comfort.
