Being primarily a sports wear manufacturer, adidas never misses an opportunity to design shoes and clothing based on sporting events, especially not when it’s the Olympics.
To represent and celebrate Canada’s team in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics adidas released this lightweight windbreaker track top. The outer shell is made of a white polyester with red cotton overlays on the shoulders, sleeves, and lower body area.
A maple leaf – iconic of Canada – is shown in a trefoil-ized version on the left breast with the word ‘CANADA’ written in large red block letters above it. The more typical adidas branding and trefoil logo is displayed below a red trim line that encircles the jacket. The back of the jacket repeats the large ‘CANADA’ text, more clearly showing that the holes in the A’s are actually small white maple leaves.
The gems of this jacket are the small details that elude to it being an Olympics relic. The zipper tape and chain are bright red to match the jacket’s colorway, and the silver pull tab depicts a hybrid trefoil torch signifying this is an adidas Olympics release. The same torch trefoil logo appears on the front bottom right of the track top, just before the white waistband, in the form of a white and royal blue patch, sewn to the jacket.
