PUMA Red Star

  • MODEL: PUMA RED STAR
  • MADE IN: WEST GERMANY

With no known release date there isn’t a lot of facts that can be stated about these West German made PUMA Red Stars, though they did appear in a 1977 catalog.

What we do know is that they differ from their Italian-made version in a couple of ways. The pair pictured here actually have a different sole unit underneath their red suede uppers and they featured the seldom-seen ‘vintage Dassler logo’ on the side. This stamp depicts a capital letter (standing for Rudolf’s last name) staged with a puma cat leaping through it at full speed.

While the logo is quite rare to be seen on vintage pairs – and its intended ‘meaning’ or symbolic significance is quite unknown – we would be wayward to neglect pointing out that it resurfaced in the Shadow Society pairs (both Red Star and Blue Star) from late 2012.

There’s not much else to say except that these are a rare classic from the large German cat family, and if you’re after a pair you’d better get hunting, because you’ve certainly got hungry competitors out there as well!
